When did a witch become a witch?
Even before someone called her one,
she must have already been there.

People give names to what they cannot understand.
Perhaps because once something has a name,
it becomes a little less frightening.

Across different lands,
she was called by different names,
and strangely, fire appeared again and again.

Fire erased many things,
but it could not burn everything.

Some became smoke,
some became stories,
and some remained within the body.

She remembers them,
knows how to put them to sleep,
and sometimes, how to wake them.

What she is capable of
is still unknown.

Things that have outlived fire
rarely reveal their secrets.
